More Than Calligraphy: My New Venture into Bottle Painting with a Splash of the Ocean
As a creative now based in Temecula, California, my creative journey has always been fluid—just like the ocean that has surrounded me for most of my life. While photography and calligraphy have been my main artistic expression, I’ve recently expanded into something new: bottle painting using acrylics. This new venture is deeply personal, reflecting not just my creativity but also my lifelong love for the sea.
A Life Lived by the Pacific Ocean
I’ve always felt at home near the Pacific Ocean. From growing up in the Bay Area to briefly living in Washington, spending most of my time in Japan, and immersing myself in the stunning beaches of O‘ahu, the ocean has always been a constant in my life. It’s not just a place I admire—it’s where I feel the most grounded.
Some of my favorite memories involve photographing couples, families, and even myself against the breathtaking backdrops of Hawaiian beaches, where the golden sunsets and endless waves create the perfect canvas for capturing life’s special moments. There’s something about the ocean that pulls me in—its energy, its mystery, and its ability to inspire.
So when I recently picked up an 1800 Tequila Blanco bottle and decided to turn it into art, I knew exactly what I wanted to paint: the ocean.
The Process: Turning a Tequila Bottle into a Work of Art
Bottle painting was something new for me, but it felt natural from the start.
I started with soft blue gradients, layering colors to capture the depth of the ocean. Using a combination of broad brushstrokes and fine details, I painted waves rolling across the glass, mirroring the way water moves effortlessly along the shore. I added white accents to create the illusion of foamy waves crashing, and hints of yellow to reflect the way sunlight dances on the water’s surface.
As I painted, I felt transported—like I was standing on a warm beach in Hawaii or watching the tides roll in from the cliffs of San Diego. The process was meditative, emotional, and incredibly fulfilling.
