So this past May, I hosted what ended up being a sold-out class at Akash Winery in Temecula, and honestly? It was one of those days where everything just clicked.
Sunday at Noon is the Move
I'm fully convinced that Sunday afternoons are the superior time to host calligraphy classes. There's just something about Sunday at noon—people are relaxed, they've had their morning coffee, and they're ready to actually be present and creative. No rushing, no stress. Just good vibes and the perfect headspace to learn something new.
We had 30 people show up, and the energy was exactly what you want: excited but chill. The vines weren't in bloom yet, but the setting was still beautiful and honestly, it didn't even matter because we were all too busy having a great time.
The Setup: Tucked Away in the Vines
What I love about hosting at Akash is that we're set up in their private event space that's literally nestled in the vine area—completely separate from the tasting room. It's this secluded little spot that feels intimate and special, which is perfect for really focusing on your letterforms without distraction.
And here's the thing: even if wine isn't your thing, you'd still love it here. The atmosphere, the scenery, the whole vibe... it just works.
Let's Talk About the Pizza Though
Bocconcini Pizza Co. comes through on weekends to serve pizza at Akash, and I need you to know that it's legitimately some of the best pizza I've had in the area. Like, I'm not just saying that. Learning calligraphy with a glass of wine and access to incredible pizza? That's the experience right there.

Quick note: all the photos from this class happen to show a group of women because that's who signed up, but guys—calligraphy classes are absolutely for you too. I'd love to see more men in these classes, so if you've been curious, this is your official invitation.
Why Akash is a Favorite
Beyond the location and the setup, I have to say that Akash's wine bottles are genuinely some of my favorite to engrave and bottle paint on. The quality is just chef's kiss, and when you're working with beautiful materials, it makes the whole creative process that much better.
