With a heart full of passion and a vision to bring joy through artisanal sweets, Aalyssa has built something beautiful from the ground up, starting at just 18 years old with nothing but hope, faith, and an unwavering belief in her dreams. Her journey as an entrepreneur, creative, and connector is both inspiring and deliciously sweet. Read on to learn more about her story, mission, and the values that drive her forward.
Can you share the story behind starting your business and what drives your mission?
I started my business with no experience, just hope and faith that people will see, taste, and feel my passion through every dessert that I create. I was an 18-year-old in my first year in college, and honestly, I just went for it. It made more sense to me to make the mistakes while I was getting my degree in business, so that is what I did! What drives me is my love for making people happy, and my love for desserts, so why not combine the two and make it the best of both worlds?
Who is your ideal client, and how do you aim to serve them?
My ideal client would be a person who not only cares for quality but artistry as well! A person who has frequent celebratory events, or a person who wants to treat themselves to a little something sweet here and there. My ideal client is a person who wants a dessert that not only looks good but tastes good as well. I aim to serve them by giving each and every person the opportunity to fully customize their desserts to their liking and making each experience as seamless and memorable as they'd hope.
Tell me a little about yourself?
My name is Aalyssa! I am 23 years old and recent college graduate from Cal State San Marcos. My cultural background is Puerto Rican, Bahamian, and Portuguese and I really love embracing the pieces of each culture that make me who I am. I have always been a creative at heart. I am a baker by passion but I love to dance, cook, paint... the whole shebang. For me, creativity is more than just making something beautiful, it’s how I express myself and connect with others. When I’m not in the kitchen, you can usually find me binge watching a tv show, listening to music, or exploring new food spots!
What's something you're passionate about?
I’m passionate about a lot of things, but at the heart of it all is creativity and connection. Baking is one of my biggest passions; it’s not just about making something sweet, but about creating moments of joy and memories people can share.
Dance is another outlet I cherish; it’s a way for me to express myself, let go, and feel free. Beyond the creative side of things, I’m also deeply passionate about making people happy and helping others. It means a lot to me to spread positivity and kindness wherever I can.
If you could describe your personality in 3 words, what would they be?
The 3 words to describe my personality would be passionate, expressive, and authentic. I put a lot of passion into everything I do. Because of my creative nature, I also would say being expressive is very important to me. I definitely show it through the various ways that make me happy. And being authentic truly highlights me as a whole. Everyone who meets me is meeting the same Aalyssa. I am who I am, and I am proud of that.
What's a dream or goal you're currently working towards?
A goal that I am currently working towards is getting a dessert trailer for events, and finding a shared rental space to up my production! This is a big step, and I am not only nervous but excited to share what is coming!
Who or what has been a big influence in your life, and why?
I would have to say my mom is my biggest influence in my life! She has such a big heart, is super generous and caring, and would help out everyone if she could. I strive to be half the person she is, and am blessed to have an amazing mom to look up to!
What's one accomplishment you're especially proud of?
I would say one accomplishment I am proud of is winning my first pitch competition and receiving $1000. I have always been a very shy person, and I honestly don't like speaking about myself. But it is much easier to talk about the business I have built. Pitching it to an audience when I had never done it before was terrifying. But I won, and it definitely gave me more confidence in myself!
