What is HANDAVĒ ?

HANDAVĒ (hahn-dah-VAY)

I'm the fourth of five kids in a Filipino family. That means I learned early that food isn't just food— it's how we show up for each other.

Handavē is a word I created by blending handa (Filipino for "prepared feast") with convivium (the ancient Roman tradition of intimate gatherings). It's my adult version of the gatherings I grew up with— where food was abundant, love was loud, and there was always room for one more.

Four times a year, I gather eight people at my table. Spring, summer, fall, winter. The menus pull from everywhere I've lived: Filipino, Japanese, Hawaiian, Korean, Mexican, Mediterranean. Growing up between Hawaii, Japan, and California gave me a palate that blends cultures seamlessly.

I hand-calligraph every invitation, every menu, every place card. This isn't a restaurant. This is my practice— my way of honoring where I come from while creating something new.

This is my handa. This is how I gather.

THE PHILOSOPHY

WHAT TO EXPECT

- Seasonal ingredients, thoughtfully sourced

- Multiple courses, multicultural flavors

- Hand-calligraphed invitations and menus

- No phones—just presence

- Real conversation, unhurried time

- A moment that can't be replicated

WHAT THIS ISN'T

- Not a restaurant or supper club

- Not formal or stuffy—elegant, yes, but warm

- Not for sale—this is my creative practice

- Not content—your experience is yours

This is where I root.

HANDAVĒ AS PORTFOLIO

I'm a creative and these dinners allow me to showcase what I can create: not just beautiful invitations, photographs, but entire experiences. Every detail—wax seals, place cards, menus, tablescapes— is designed and executed by me. Handavē demonstrates what I can bring to your wedding or event.
